Do you have a favorite rock song from the 90s?
Known as the "grunge era," the 90s infused heavy metal and introspection into rock 'n' roll, and one band did it better than the rest. Responsible for tracks like "Something In The Way," "Lithium," "Heart-Shaped Box," and "Come As You Are," the band that penned the best 90s rock song of all time broke up before the decade was halfway through due the untimely death of their lead singer at the age of 27.
According to a list compiled by The Top Tens, the best 90s rock song was untamed anthem "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. Founded by late icon Kurt Cobain and bandmate Krist Novoselic in the late 80s, Nirvana, with Dave Grohl on drums, released the two-time Grammy-nominated track as part of 1991's Nevermind, per IMDB.
Other 90s songs that made the list include Guns N' Roses' "November Rain," Metallica's "Enter Sandman," Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun," and Green Day's "Basket Case" to round out the top five.
Here's what The Top Tens had to say about the best 90s rock song of all time:
"The intention of this song wasn't to become a legendary change in the music world. This song was written to be heard. However, it became a revolution. It was a '90s head-turner. It brought the grunge scene to the world, which opened up incredible opportunities for other bands."
