i fully support this. social media can be damaging to developing younger minds, and we've seen the pressure that instagram specificially has had on the youth. this is the right move: Instagram oficially releasing parental controls.
The app's new parental controls are launching in the U.S. The supervision tools were first announced back in December of last year. The new controls will allow parents and guardians to set limits on the amount of time their children can spend on the app, receive notifications when they report another user, and their follower-following activity.
The release of the company's "first set" of parental controls comes after the Meta-owned social media platform came under criticism for its potentially negative impact on the mental health of young users.
The only hiccup? For now, teens themselves will need to activate the controls. Parents will be able to initiate the process starting in June. Teens will still have to grant permission to parents in June.
