If you need another reason to feel old, well here you go...The Strokes' iconic, era defining debut album Is This It will be turning 20 years old this year, released on July 30th, 2001.
I think if this was any other year, our expectations for some sort of celebration of this big time anniversary would be high but that's not the reason why the album's producer Gordon Raphael thinks it's unlikely.
“I haven’t heard of any plans, and from what I know about The Strokes – I could be very wrong – but I think the last thing on their mind is a record they made 20 years ago, Raphael told NME.
He added a "let's see what happens," but he just doesn't think they care as much as we do about the debut, with members having solo projects, writing new music and riding the wave of the acclaimed The New Abnormal album this past year.
Gordon also dropped a little nugget that in lockdown, it gave him time to write book about moving to NYC, meeting the band, and eventually making the album...which would be a very cool read to keep us entertained in the meantime.
I suppose this all makes sense but still, an Is This It: 20th Anniversary Tour would be pretty sweet........please
