Thousands Of $1 Bills Are Worth Over $1000 Dollars - See If You Have One!

When you get a few dollars as change after making a purchase, you probably just shove them into your wallet or pocket and not look at them again until you spend them. Well now there is a reason to take a closer look at the bills, perhaps even a thousand reasons to. It turns out that the serial numbers on the bills could make them worth way more than one dollar.

The_Coin_Guy on TikTok recently posted a video that points out one thing in particular to be on the lookout for. In the clip, he shows a dollar bill that has a serial number made up of all 8s. He explains that it is called a solid serial number and that bills with them are extremely collectible. To prove it, he revealed how much that bill sold for - $7,500.

Obviously it isn't possible for there to be that many bills out there with serial numbers made up of the same repeated digit, but those aren't the dollars worth over a thousand bucks. Keep an eye out for ones with really low numbers, like 00000001, ones with really high numbers, ones with repeating number patterns like 12341234, ones that only use the same two numbers like 12212122, and flippers - ones that have a number that can be read the same even if it is upside-down, like 00069000. There are also bills that have a star instead of a letter at the end of the serial number. These bills, called star notes, replaced other bills that had a printing error. Since the Treasury can't print a dollar bill with the same serial number more than once, they add the star.

If you want to see if a bill you have is worth anything because of its serial number, this fancy serial number checker can give you some idea of its value to a collector. As for what to do if you have a bill that's unique - you can try a pawn shop, eBay or find a collector's group on Facebook and list it there.
