WATCH: Soundgarden Covering Nirvana at Lollapalooza ‘92

Talk about a true grunge historical moment. Video of Soundgarden covering Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit” has resurfaced. An awesome nod to their SUB POP record label mates and friends. The cover happened at Lollapalooza 1992 at the tour’s July 22 stop in Bremerton, Washington. It's extra cool because the song had just come out at the time, and Soundgarden already had it memorized to cover. At one point in the video, Chris Cornell says to the crowd:

“I saw somebody throw their pants in the air. You can all take your pants off and throw them in the air. I think that would be f*cking cool. Everybody, remember you’ve got to take your shoes off first.”

This festival had an amazing lineup too: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam and Lush. Temple of the Dog – the grunge supergroup for which Cornell sang on their self-titled debut – and Rage Against The Machine performed on the side stage throughout the tour.
