In a press conference today, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney announced plans for when the city moves into the "green" phase of the reopening - and that, if trends continue, the city could move to green as soon as July 3.
In his press conference with Health Commissioner Farley, the "Reopening With Care" plan as they call it, depends on virus reproductive rate, adherence to guidance, effectiveness of containment, hospital capacity, and effectiveness of efforts to protect vulnerable populations.
However, Farley says that if people don't follow guidelines, we could easily go back to yellow. He laid out measures that Philadelphians should still be taking, including wearing masks, observing social distancing, isolate if you have symptoms, and washing your hands regularly.
They also added that on June 26th, some things will be allowed to start earlier, like: residential swimming pools and clubs, zoos (outdoor only), small indoor gatherings, and salons, barbers, and spas.
However, even when we get to the green phase in Philadelphia, some things will remain CLOSED. Unlike Tom Wolf's plan for Pennsylvania as a whole, casinos, theaters, conventions, and large religious gatherings will still be closed and restricted under the Philly green phase.
Farley also added that it's possible that some Southeastern PA suburban counties may go green earlier, like June 26th. They said more guidance on that, plus how specific type of businesses can reopen under the green plan, can be expected next week.
