Among all the excitement about John Frusciante re-joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers some of us may have forgotten that this decision also required the firing of Josh Klinghoffer.
Now Klinghoffer has come forward with his first statements since being let from the band.
Josh was a guest on the WTF Podcast recently and talked about his thoughts on the situation. While he is disappointed, he does say that he understood the decision and it seems there are no hard feelings. He says the decision was "pretty simple."
“It’s absolutely John’s place to be in that band. So that’s why I’m happy for him, I’m happy that he’s back with them.”
Klinghoffer said the news came as a “complete shock but not a surprise". “John and Flea have a musical language. I’ll never be able to contend with the history him and John had."
“I rode my bike over [to Flea’s house]. They just said, ‘We’ll get right to it. We’ve decided to ask John to come back to the band.’ And I just sat there quiet for a second and I said, ‘I’m not surprised.’ And the only thing I could think to say was, ‘I wish I could have done something with you guys, musically or creatively, that would have made this an absolute impossibility.'”
He also went on to say that he was working with the band on new songs, but assumes they'll be scrapped for new material with Frusciante.
Of course we wish Josh the best and are excited for the future for The Chili Peppers!
