South Philly's Iconic Melrose Diner Shuts Down After Fire On Wednesday

South Philly’s iconic Melrose Diner will now b closed temporarily after a major fire on Wednesday afternoon around 6pm.

The owner, Michael Petrogiannis, says he believes it started as an electric fire, and originally said that the diner would be closed for months. However, he's now setting a pretty ambitious goal - to reopen the diner as early as next week. Would be amazing if he could get it done that fast!

He said he’s grateful staff and the customers who were inside were not injured, and he is hoping to relocate the staff to the Broad Street Diner until Melrose reopens.

Check out below what Michael and some of the staff had to say, and video from the actual fire when firefighters were trying to contain. We're glad everyone's okay!
