We know that Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars' was a huge song for them, but apparently much huger than I would have given them credit for. The 2006 ballad has been named the most-played song of the 21st century by the British music licensing company PPL.
When it was released, 'Chasing Cars' only reach No.6 on the UK Official Singles Chart, while staying in the top 75 for 94 weeks (according to Billboard).
When asked about the songs enduring popularity, Snow Patrol frontman/songwriter Gary Lightbody told the BBC, "It's unbelievable. I'm not sure how that happened...It's an emotionally open song and it's a simple song. But it's unabashedly a love song, and we don't really have any others. The way it unifies an audience is the thing I most cherish about it. It's a beautiful moment every time you play it."
