Very sad to hear of the passing of Ranking Roger, aka Roger Charlery, best known from his work with The Beat/English Beat and General Public. He was only 56 and died after a months-long battle with brain and lung cancer.
Roger Charlery, best known as Ranking Roger, the vocalist and toastmaster for British Ska revival bands The Beat and General Public, died Tuesday, March 26 after a months-long battle with brain and lung cancer. He was only 56.
The sad news of Ranking Roger's passing was initially posted yesterday afternoon on The Beat's Facebook page with a brief statement that read, "'He fought & fought & fought, Roger was a fighter.' Sadly Roger past away a few hours ago peacefully at his home surrounded by family. Roger's family would like to thank everyone for their constant support during this tough time. More to follow in the coming days. RIP ROGER!"
If you are not familiar with either of his bands, I highly recommend you check ‘em out. Very influential and very good. I’ll get you started below:
