Philly Invites LGBTQ Couples To Get Married At LOVE Park Next Week

Next Thursday, October 11th, is National Coming Out Day, and our city is celebrating with a special event they're calling "Out In Love" from 11:30 am to 2pm.

The event is calling for any/all LGBTQ couples in the area to come get married (or renew their vows) over at LOVE Park! This would all happen in front of the famous LOVE sculpture, of course, and would be free of charge.

Mayor Jim Kenney will be onsite to speak and the public will be invited to celebrate the couples afterward in the park with a special reception which will include food trucks and music.

Interested in taking part? You do have to reserve a spot ahead of time. In order to do so, you must first obtain a marriage license and email a copy of the license to lgbt.intern@phila.gov by Monday, Oct. 8. Space is limited, so reserving a spot as early as possible is encouraged.

"Being queer and in love is a profound, radical act. It is an act that tears down all social boundaries, an act of choosing to be with the person you love in a world where your commitment is challenged every day, and it is the act of choosing to honor, respect and stand beside the person you love as you both walk in your truth," says Amber Hikes, Director for the Office of LGBT Affairs in Philadelphia, in a statement to press.

What a beautiful idea!
