As we remember Tom Petty on the one year anniversary of his death, The Lumineers have released their cover of Tom Petty’s ‘Walls’, which you can check out below.
The Lumineers’ front man Wesley Schultz commented, “Tom Petty is a musical hero of mine, and ‘Walls’ is such an incredible song…When I got married, my wife walked down the aisle to the song.”
The Lumineers previously opened up for Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers three times, and even performed “Walls” in front of Petty at the annual MusiCares Person of the Year Gala in 2017 where Petty was the honoree. Schultz said that performance resonated the most… “After we played, Petty told me how much he liked and appreciated the version, which was a great honor. This is our way of paying homage to him.”
All of the proceeds from the release of this song will benefit MusiCares, a charity of the Recording Academy, which provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need.
