If you thought last weekend was jam-packed with shows, you weren't wrong. However, this weekend is even MORE jam-packed with shows! It's time for everyone to leave the house after their winter hibernation and head out to play or watch some great music. Which ones will you choose? Unfortunately they are spread out a bit far apart to realistically make all of them. Until jetpacks and time travel and cloning is available to us, your best bet is most likely just picking one solid show for each night or checking out some early sets at one place and heading along to another spot later in the night. Call me old-fashioned, but those personal assistants who wear an iPad with your face on it while Facetiming everything that's going on so you can theoretically be in two places at the same time are a little creepy for my tastes.
There are a bunch of exciting record release shows this weekend. Friday night 3/30 is the VINYL release for Ben Arnold's Sunday Morning Meltdown at the Vault at Victor Records, a very cool spot over the bridge in Berlin, NJ where you can see pieces of history and memorabilia from the old Victor Records recording studios - what was salvaged from their time with RCA. Psychedelic/garage rocker Brother JT is celebrating the release of his album, Tornado Juice, up at the Funhouse in Bethlehem (as we all know, the REAL town that Billy Joel's "Allentown" was based upon but didn't rhyme/flow as well for his songwriting purposes) and playing double duty playing with his other band RunHideFight that night. The other record release that I know about/recommend this weekend is Saturday night at Underground Arts for the Queen of Jeans record release party with Katie Ellen and Harmony Woods.
As always, I only link the Philly area artists (city, suburbs, Jersey, Delaware, with moderate liberties). No offense to the other folks on these shows from other towns... Also I probably won't include Sold-Out shows, since you can't go if you don't already have your tix.
As always, msg me at phillymusicpodcast@gmail.com or tweet me @PhillyMusicPod to let me know about upcoming shows that I should include, new songs to listen to, etc.
