AOL Announces They're Getting Rid Of AIM

It's the end of an era.

For kids that grew up in the 90's there's no doubt that you used AOL's instant messaging service AIM.

Before Facebook and all the other social networks, the best way to communicate was through AIM. Everyone had super embarrassing screenames that they won't admit to anymore, right? AND you knew you were important when you messaged someone with an "away message" on and they messaged you right back.

Well, now the company has announced come December they're finally doing away with the service!

In a new statement they say:

"You likely remember the CD, your first screenname, your carefully curated away messages, and how you organized your buddy lists. Right now you might be reminiscing about how you had to compete for time on the home computer in order to chat with friends outside of school."

"AIM tapped into new digital technologies and ignited a cultural shift, but the way in which we communicate with each other has profoundly changed. As a result we’ve made the decision that we will be discontinuing AIM effective December 15, 2017."

Wow. Though I haven't used the service in many many moons, it's still sad to see it go right?
