Coachella calls off festival for 2021

Coachella will not go on as planned in April 2021. The festival organizers Goldenvoice didn't pull the plug, instead, a public health order was issued today by the public health officer for Riverside County, California, where both Coachella and Stagecoach Country Music festivals take place.

No reschedule dates have been announced, though sources told Billboard the possibility of fall dates had not been ruled out.

The order reads as follows:

This Order recognizes that both the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Music Festival are music concerts and gatherings of an international scope, attracting hundreds of thousands of attendees from many countries, including several disproportionately afflicted by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic," reads the order. "This order is intended to reduce the likelihood of exposure to COVID-19, thereby slowing the spread of COVID-19 in communities worldwide."

Other large scale festivals like Ultra in Miami and Glastonbury in England have been called off for this year as well in the interest of health and public safety.
